Indian economy is a traditional agrarian economy were once half of the GDP used to be from agriculture and allied sectors .The latest situation is changing dramatically. According to Economic Census (2005), 85 per cent of the households are operating on 2 ha of farm land or less than that. Recent National Assessment Survey of farmers ,NSSO(2005), observe that the average monthly per capita expenditure (MPCE) of a farm house hold is just Rupees 503 with 27 per cent of farmers not liking farming while 40 per cent felt that if given option they prefer other carrier. It also says only 29 per cent of farmer only understood what is minimum price while only 40 per cent of farmers household accessed information of modern technology.
This malady of discontent highlights the potential application of ICT in agriculture as a tool and technique as world has become highly informational. The contours of Indian agriculture has to change and the nation system should also activate through its quinquennial planning and increasing private partnership .The paper put lights on various initiative and the field of darkness were ICT has to be lighted.
